Trailer and dump body repair

Quick answer

BERNTOR INC. welds and repairs steel trailers and dump bodies on site across the North Shore: cracked frame, broken crossmember, bent side wall, holed floor or torn-off tie-down. The service saves you from moving the unit out of your yard or job site.

Typical use cases

A working trailer takes repeated loads, gravel roads and uneven loading. Failures almost always show up in the same places.

  • Frame or main rail crack
  • Crossmember or axle bracket to re-weld
  • Bent or torn side walls, posts and dump body corners
  • Holed or thinned steel floor
  • Torn-off tie-downs, D-rings and ramp brackets
  • Fenders, accessory brackets and assorted steel parts

Types of problems handled

Frame fatigue

Cracks often start at a weld or a drilled hole. They are stopped and repaired before they run through the part.

Dump body deformation and wear

Straightening where feasible, then welding and adding steel plate in areas thinned by loading.

Anchor points

Rings, hooks and brackets reattached where the load spreads better, when the configuration allows it.

How a job unfolds

The unit must be empty, stable and accessible. For a dump body, it must be able to sit in a safe position and be blocked if it has to stay raised.

The area is prepared, shielded from sparks where needed, then welded. A visual check is done before the unit goes back into service.

Information to have ready

  • Type of trailer or dump body and its usual use
  • Broken part and where it sits on the unit
  • Whether the unit is loaded, empty or immobilized
  • City, area and where the unit is located
  • Photos of the damaged area and its surroundings

Limits and safety

  • Work is done on steel only: no aluminum, no stainless steel.
  • No regulated structural repairs and no high-pressure piping work are offered.
  • Work depends on safe access: a clear zone, flammable materials moved away, the machine immobilized.
  • Some conditions (wind, heavy rain, impassable access, site requirements) can postpone the work.
  • If a job falls outside what is offered, that is said plainly on the phone rather than attempted.
  • Trailer work does not replace a mechanical inspection or a road compliance check.
  • Electrical boxes, lines and sensitive components must be identified before welding nearby.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does the dump body have to be emptied first?
Yes. The unit must be empty, clean around the weld area and stabilized so the work can be done safely.
Does this make my trailer road compliant?
No. A welded repair fixes a specific failure; it is not an inspection or a compliance certificate.
Can you work in my yard or a company parking lot?
Yes, if the spot is accessible, clear and safe, and the property owner allows the work.
